Ingredients for Sesame Ahi Tuna

Method

Preparation Directions for Sesame Ahi Tuna

  1. 1

    Prepare the Slaw

In a large bowl, combine the shredded cabbage, carrots, and green onions. In a small bowl, whisk together the rice vinegar, 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, and 1 tablespoon of sesame oil. Pour the dressing over the slaw and toss well. Set aside.

  2. 2

    Make the Wasabi Cream

In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the wasabi paste until smooth. Adjust seasoning with more wasabi if desired. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Prepare the Wontons

Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the wonton wrappers until golden and crispy, about 1-2 minutes per side. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  4. 4

    Sear the Tuna

Rub the ahi tuna steaks with the remaining sesame oil and soy sauce. Heat a skillet over high heat. Sear the tuna for about 1-2 minutes on each side for rare, or longer if desired. Remove from heat and slice thinly.

  5. 5

    Assemble the Dish

On a serving plate, place a generous scoop of the slaw. Arrange the sliced tuna on top. Drizzle with additional soy sauce if desired and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Serve with crispy wontons on the side and a dollop of wasabi cream.
