Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Chop the Vegetables

Finely chop the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic cloves and set aside.

Cooking the Sauce

  1. 2

    Brown the Meat

In a large skillet or pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and ground pork, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. 3

    Cook the Vegetables

Add the chopped onion, carrot, celery, and garlic to the meat. Sauté for 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 4

    Add the Tomatoes and Wine

Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, and red wine. Bring to a simmer.

  4. 5

    Add Broth and Herbs

Pour in the beef broth, add the dried oregano, and half of the fresh basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir to combine.

  5. 6

    Simmer the Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer uncovered for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens.

Cooking the Pasta

  1. 7

    Cook the Pasta

In a separate pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Final Assembly

  1. 8

    Combine and Serve

Once the sauce has thickened, add the remaining fresh basil. Toss the cooked pasta with the Bolognese sauce and serve hot.
