Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, mix warm water with sugar and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine and Knead Dough

Create a well in the center of the flour mixture, add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth.

  4. 4

    Let Dough Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Assembly and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) for at least 30 minutes.

  2. 6

    Shape Dough

Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.

  3. 7

    Add Sauce and Cheese

Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the base, leaving a small border. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and scatter evenly over the sauce.

  4. 8

    Season and Bake

Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and black pepper to taste. Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.

  5. 9

    Garnish and Serve

Remove from the oven and top with fresh basil leaves. Slice and serve hot.
