Method

Pasta Preparation

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Add 1 tablespoon of salt to the boiling water.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

  3. 3

    Drain Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.

Meatball Preparation

  1. 4

    Mix Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine 500 grams of ground beef, 1 cup of breadcrumbs, 50 grams of grated Parmesan cheese, 2 minced garlic cloves, 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning.

  2. 5

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, mix the ingredients until well combined, then form into meatballs about the size of golf balls.

  3. 6

    Cook Meatballs

In a skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Sauce Preparation

  1. 7

    Sauté Garlic

In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Once hot, add 2 minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 8

    Add Tomatoes

Pour in 800 grams of crushed canned tomatoes and stir well.

  3. 9

    Season Sauce

Add 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, 1 teaspoon of Italian seasoning, and 1 teaspoon of sugar to the sauce. Stir well and let simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. 10

    Combine Meatballs

Add the cooked meatballs back into the sauce and let them simmer together for another 5-10 minutes.

Final Assembly

  1. 11

    Serve

On a plate, serve a portion of spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce. Garnish with additional Parmesan cheese and fresh basil if desired.
