Mussels Preparation

Clean the Mussels
Rinse the mussels under cold running water, scrubbing the shells with a brush to remove any sand or barnacles. Remove the beards by pulling them off with your fingers.

Add Spice
Sprinkle in the red pepper flakes and stir for another 30 seconds.

Deglaze with Wine
Pour in 1 cup of dry white wine, scraping any bits from the bottom of the pot. Bring to a simmer for about 2 minutes.

Add Tomatoes
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, fresh basil, salt, and black pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 5 minutes.

Cook the Mussels
Add the cleaned mussels to the pot, cover, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mussels have opened. Discard any that do not open.
Crostini Preparation

Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Baguette
Slice the French baguette into 1/2 inch thick slices. Arrange them on a baking sheet.

Toast the Crostini
Bake in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
