Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Marinara Sauce

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.

  2. 2

Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 3

Bring the sauce to a simmer and reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  4. 4

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Assembly

  1. 5

    Layer the Lasagna

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.

  2. 6

Place 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.

  3. 7

Repeat the layers: add another layer of marinara sauce, 3 lasagna noodles, the remaining ricotta mixture, and another third of the mozzarella cheese.

  4. 8

Top with the last 3 lasagna noodles, the remaining marinara sauce, and the rest of the mozzarella cheese.

Baking

  1. 9

    Bake the Lasagna

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, you can spray the foil with cooking spray). Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.

  2. 10

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

  3. 11

Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
