Cooking Pasta

Boil Water
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil over high heat.

Cook Spaghetti
Add the spaghetti to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions, usually about 8-10 minutes, until al dente.

Drain Pasta
Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside.
Making Sauce

Sauté Garlic
Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1-2 minutes until fragrant but not browned.

Add Tomatoes
Pour in the canned tomatoes, breaking them up with a spoon.

Season Sauce
Add basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar to the sauce, stirring to combine.

Simmer Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Combining Pasta and Sauce

Add the drained spaghetti to the sauce and toss to coat evenly.

Serve the spaghetti hot, topped with optional parmesan cheese, chili flakes, and fresh basil leaves, if desired.
