Method
Pretzel Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and melted butter. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- 5
Shape Pretzels
Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and twist it into a pretzel shape.
- 6
Baking Soda Bath
Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). In a large pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil. Boil each pretzel for about 30 seconds, then remove and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 7
Add Toppings
Sprinkle each pretzel with coarse sea salt before baking.
- 8
Bake
Bake the pretzels in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
Beer Cheese Preparation
- 9
Combine Ingredients
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine shredded cheddar cheese, cream cheese, and beer. Stir continuously until melted and smooth.
- 10
Add Seasonings
Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, mustard, and black pepper. Mix well until fully combined.
- 11
Serve
Remove from heat and serve warm with the freshly baked pretzels.
