Method

Prepare the Burger Patty

  1. 1

    Mix the Ingredients

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Patties

Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from puffing up during cooking.

Cook the Patties

  1. 3

    Heat the Grill or Pan

Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. If using a skillet, add a little oil to prevent sticking.

  2. 4

    Cook the Patties

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and cook for another 3-4 minutes for medium doneness. If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking to melt.

Prepare the Toppings

  1. 5

    Slice the Vegetables

While the patties are cooking, wash and slice the lettuce, tomato, and onion. Cut the tomato into thick slices and the onion into rings.

Assemble the Burger

  1. 6

    Toast the Buns

If desired, toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster until golden brown.

  2. 7

    Build Your Burger

On the bottom half of each bun, start with a layer of lettuce, followed by the cooked patty with melted cheese, tomato slices, and onion rings. Top with the other half of the bun.
