Beef Patty

Caramelized Onions

Method

Beef Patty

  1. 1

    Prepare the Beef Patty

In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with salt and black pepper. Mix gently until just combined, then form into one large patty or two smaller patties, depending on your preference.

  2. 2

    Cook the Beef Patty

Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef patty and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let it rest.

Caramelized Onions

  1. 3

    Cook the Onions

In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the butter. Once melted, add the sliced onions and salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until the onions are soft and golden brown.

Assembly

  1. 4

    Assemble the Patty Melt

Spread 1 tablespoon of Russian dressing on one side of each slice of marble rye bread. On two slices, layer the cooked beef patty, caramelized onions, and two slices of Swiss cheese. Top with the remaining slices of bread, dressing side down.

  2. 5

    Grill the Patty Melt

In the same skillet, add the butter for grilling. Once melted, place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet. Grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  3. 6

    Serve

Remove the patty melts from the skillet, cut in half if desired, and serve hot.
