Assembly

Method

Burger Patties

  1. 1

    Prepare the Patties

Divide the ground beef into two equal portions, about 1/2 pound each. Gently shape them into loose balls and season with salt and black pepper.

  2. 2

    Smash the Patties

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Place the beef balls on the hot surface and smash them down using a spatula to form thin patties. Cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned on one side.

  3. 3

    Flip the Patties

Carefully flip the patties and place a slice of American cheese on top of each patty. Continue cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted.

Caramelized Onions

  1. 4

    Slice the Onion

    Thinly slice the medium onion.

  2. 5

    Caramelize the Onions

In a separate skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until the onions are soft and caramelized.

Smash Sauce

  1. 6

    Mix the Sauce

In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, pickle juice, and garlic powder. Mix well until smooth.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Toast the Buns

Lightly toast burger buns on the skillet or griddle until golden brown.

  2. 8

    Assemble the Burger

Spread a generous amount of smash sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Layer on the smashed patties, followed by the caramelized onions and pickle slices. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
