Ice Cream Base Preparation

Prepare the Vanilla
Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the seeds. Set both seeds and pod aside.

Heat Cream and Milk
In a medium saucepan, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, salt, and the vanilla bean pod. Heat over medium heat until the mixture is hot but not boiling.

Cool and Refrigerate
Remove from heat, stir in the vanilla seeds, and strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl. Cover and refrigerate until completely chilled, preferably overnight.
Churning and Freezing

Churn the Ice Cream
Once chilled, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer's instructions until it reaches a soft-serve consistency.

Freeze the Ice Cream
Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 4 hours or until firm.
Sundae Assembly

Prepare Sundae
Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones, then drizzle with chocolate sauce, sprinkle with chopped nuts, add a dollop of whipped cream, and top with a cherry.
