Method

Salad Preparation

  1. 1

    Slice the Tomatoes and Mozzarella

Wash the tomatoes thoroughly. Slice the tomatoes into thin rounds and place them in a large serving bowl. Slice the fresh mozzarella into similar-sized rounds and layer them with the tomatoes.

  2. 2

    Add Basil

Rinse the basil leaves under cold water, then pat them dry. Tear the basil leaves into smaller pieces and sprinkle them over the tomatoes and mozzarella in the serving bowl.

Baguette Preparation

  1. 3

    Prepare the Baguette

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Cut the baguette into 1-inch slices without cutting all the way through. This will help keep the slices connected.

  2. 4

    Make Garlic Oil

In a small bowl, mix the olive oil and minced garlic. Brush this mixture generously over the baguette slices.

  3. 5

    Toast the Baguette

Place the baguette on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the bread is golden and crispy.

Balsamic Reduction Preparation

  1. 6

    Make the Balsamic Reduction

In a small saucepan, add the balsamic vinegar and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Allow it to simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it has reduced by half and has thickened slightly. Remove from heat and let cool.

Assembly

  1. 7

    Assemble the Salad

Drizzle the balsamic reduction over the layered tomatoes and mozzarella. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Optionally, you can drizzle a little more olive oil on top.

  2. 8

    Serve

Serve the salad immediately with the toasted garlic baguette on the side.
