Method
Flatbread Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- 2
Mix Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling Flatbread
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking sheet inside to heat.
- 6
Roll Out Dough
Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a floured surface. Roll out the dough to your desired thickness.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Transfer the rolled-out dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread a layer of tomato sauce over the base, then sprinkle with mozzarella cheese and add your choice of up to 5 toppings.
- 8
Bake Flatbread
Carefully transfer the flatbread to the preheated pizza stone or baking sheet. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the edges are golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 9
Finish and Serve
Remove the flatbread from the oven. Garnish with fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese if desired. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
