Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (about 110°F) and sugar. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- 2
Mix Dough Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to the highest setting (about 475°F to 500°F) and place a pizza stone inside if you have one.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 12 inches in diameter).
- 7
Add Pomodoro Sauce
Spread the pomodoro sauce evenly over the rolled-out dough, leaving about an inch around the edges.
- 8
Add Mozzarella
Place slices of fresh mozzarella evenly on top of the sauce.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or onto the pizza stone) and bake for about 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- 10
Garnish with Basil
Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately sprinkle fresh basil leaves on top, then drizzle with olive oil and season with salt to taste.
- 11
Slice and Serve
Let the pizza cool for a minute, slice, and serve hot.
