Dry Ingredients

Wet Ingredients

Method

Mixing the Dough

  1. 1

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, instant yeast, salt, and sugar until well blended.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the warm water and olive oil.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Using your hands or a wooden spoon, mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Rising the Dough

  1. 4

    First Rise

Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shaping and Baking

  1. 5

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet in the oven to heat.

  2. 6

    Divide the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 8 equal pieces.

  3. 7

    Shape the Pitas

Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten each ball into a circle about 1/4 inch thick.

  4. 8

    Bake the Pitas

Carefully place the shaped dough onto the hot baking stone or sheet and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until puffed and lightly golden.

Cooling and Serving

  1. 9

    Cool the Pitas

Remove the baked pitas from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool. Cover with a towel to keep warm.

  2. 10

    Serve

Serve the pita bread warm with your favorite dips, spreads, or fillings.
