Turkish Coffee

Method

Turkish Coffee Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a cezve (small pot), combine the finely ground coffee, water, sugar, and cardamom (if using).

  2. 2

    Dissolve Ingredients

Stir the mixture well to ensure the coffee and sugar dissolve.

  3. 3

    Heat the Coffee

Place the cezve over low heat and allow the coffee to slowly heat up without stirring.

  4. 4

    Foam and Remove

Watch for the coffee to foam and rise, then remove it from the heat just before it boils.

  5. 5

    Serve Coffee

Pour the coffee into a small cup, letting the grounds settle at the bottom.

Baklava Preparation

  1. 6

    Preheat Oven

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. 7

    Prepare Filling

In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, sugar, and ground cinnamon.

  3. 8

    Layer Phyllo Dough

Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this for 8 sheets, layering and buttering each sheet.

  4. 9

    Add Filling

Spread a thin layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo sheets.

  5. 10

    Finish Layers

Continue layering 4 more sheets of buttered phyllo, then add another layer of filling. Repeat until all the filling is used, finishing with a top layer of 8 buttered phyllo sheets.

  6. 11

    Cut Baklava

Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife.

  7. 12

    Bake Baklava

Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until golden brown.

  8. 13

    Make Syrup

While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by combining water, sugar, honey, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

  9. 14

    Pour Syrup

Once the baklava is baked, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the hot syrup over it, ensuring it seeps into the cuts.

  10. 15

    Cool and Serve

Allow the baklava to cool completely before serving.
