Toppings (optional)

Method

Cooking Pasta

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil.

  2. 2

    Cook Macaroni

Add 2 cups of macaroni to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

Making Cheese Sauce

  1. 3

    Melt Butter

In a medium saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.

  2. 4

    Create Roux

Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to the melted butter, whisking constantly for about 1 minute until smooth and bubbly.

  3. 5

    Add Milk

Gradually whisk in 2 cups of milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens (about 5-7 minutes).

  4. 6

    Add Cheese and Seasonings

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, 0.5 teaspoon of garlic powder, and 0.5 teaspoon of mustard powder until the cheese is completely melted.

Combining and Serving

  1. 7

    Combine Pasta and Sauce

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until the pasta is evenly coated.

  2. 8

    Add Toppings (if desired)

If using, sprinkle 0.5 cups of breadcrumbs and 0.25 cups of grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  3. 9

    Bake (optional)

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish and bake for 20 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.

  4. 10

    Serve

Remove from oven (if baked), let cool slightly, and serve warm.
