Method

Dough Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Whisk together until well mixed.

  2. 2

    Add Wet Ingredients

Add the unsalted butter, milk, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour until manageable.

  3. 3

    Knead and Rest

Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 2-3 minutes until smooth. Cover with a clean towel and let it rest for 30 minutes.

Filling Preparation

  1. 4

    Choose Your Filling

Select either chocolate chips, peach filling, or apple filling to use as the filling for your pies. You can also mix fillings if desired.

Frying

  1. 5

    Heat Oil

In a large deep skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  2. 6

    Shape and Fill Dough

Roll out the rested dough on a floured surface to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut into circles (about 4-5 inches in diameter). Place about 2 tablespoons of your chosen filling in the center of each circle.

  3. 7

    Seal the Pies

Fold the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together to seal, then crimp with a fork for extra security.

  4. 8

    Fry the Pies

Carefully place the filled pies in the hot oil, frying 2-3 at a time for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Serve the fried pies warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Drizzle with chocolate syrup and add whipped cream if desired.
