Method

Cooking Spaghetti

  1. 1

    Boil Water

In a large pot, bring 4 liters of water to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add 1 tablespoon of salt.

  2. 2

    Cook Spaghetti

Add 400 grams of spaghetti to the boiling water. Cook according to package instructions (usually about 8-10 minutes) until al dente. Stir occasionally.

  3. 3

    Drain Spaghetti

Once cooked, drain the spaghetti in a colander and set aside, reserving a cup of the pasta water.

Preparing Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onion and Garlic

In a large skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes until translucent. Add the minced garlic and sauté for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasonings

Pour in 800 grams of canned crushed tomatoes, then add 1 teaspoon of dried oregano, 1 teaspoon of dried basil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 0.5 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Stir well to combine.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning if needed.

  4. 7

    Combine with Spaghetti

Add the drained spaghetti to the marinara sauce. If the sauce is too thick, gradually add a little reserved pasta water until you reach the desired consistency. Toss to combine.

  5. 8

    Serve

Plate the spaghetti and sauce mixture. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.
