Method

Preparing Lasagna

  1. 1

    Cook Lasagna Noodles

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add lasagna noodles and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

  2. 2

    Prepare Filling

In a large bowl, combine ricotta cheese, shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, chopped basil, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.

  3. 3

    Assemble Lasagna

Take one lasagna noodle at a time, spread a thin layer of the cheese filling on top, and roll it up tightly. Repeat with remaining noodles.

Frying

  1. 4

    Prepare Coating

Set up a dredging station with three shallow bowls: one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with salt and pepper.

  2. 5

    Coat Lasagna Rolls

Take each lasagna roll, coat it in flour, dip it into the beaten eggs, and then roll it in the breadcrumbs until completely covered.

  3. 6

    Heat Oil

In a large, deep skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it shimmers.

  4. 7

    Fry Lasagna Rolls

Carefully place the coated lasagna rolls in the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Fry until golden brown on all sides, about 3-4 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Making Marinara Sauce

  1. 8

    Cook Marinara Sauce

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, salt, and black pepper. Let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add chopped basil before serving.

Serving

  1. 9

    Plate and Serve

Place fried lasagna rolls on a plate and drizzle with warm marinara sauce. Garnish with additional fresh basil if desired.
