Sandwich Assembly

Method

Meatballs

  1. 1

    Prepare the Meatball Mixture

In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, egg, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form the Meatballs

Shape the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake the Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes, or until they are browned and cooked through.

Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Onions and Garlic

In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  2. 5

    Prepare the Sauce

Add crushed tomatoes to the saucepan along with salt, black pepper, Italian seasoning, and sugar. Stir to combine and let simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Sandwich Assembly

  1. 6

    Assemble the Sandwich

Slice the sub rolls open. Place several meatballs on the bottom half of each roll, spoon marinara sauce over the meatballs, and top with provolone cheese slices.

  2. 7

    Melt the Cheese

Place the assembled sandwiches under a broiler for 2-3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with grated Romano cheese.

  3. 8

    Serve

Close the sandwiches and serve immediately while hot.
