Method

Preparation

  1. 1

    Prepare the Bread

Cut the stale bread into small cubes and set aside in a large bowl.

  2. 2

    Sauté Vegetables

In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and celery, and sauté until softened (about 5-7 minutes). Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.

Combine Ingredients

  1. 3

    Mix Bread and Vegetables

Pour the sautéed vegetable mixture over the bread cubes in the bowl. Stir to combine.

  2. 4

    Add Seasonings

Add the dried sage, dried thyme, salt, and black pepper to the bread mixture. Mix well to ensure the seasonings are evenly distributed.

Moisten and Bake

  1. 5

    Add Liquid Ingredients

In a separate bowl, combine the chicken or vegetable broth with the beaten eggs. Pour this mixture over the bread mixture and stir until the bread is evenly moistened.

  2. 6

    Transfer to Baking Dish

Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Spread it out evenly.

  3. 7

    Bake the Stuffing

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
