Toppings and Sides

Method

Prepare the Meatballs

  1. 1

    Mix Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, minced garlic, eggs, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Mix until well combined.

  2. 2

    Form Meatballs

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  3. 3

    Bake Meatballs

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the meatballs for 20-25 minutes or until cooked through and browned.

Make the Marinara Sauce

  1. 4

    Sauté Aromatics

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion becomes translucent.

  2. 5

    Add Tomatoes and Seasoning

Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.

  3. 6

    Simmer Sauce

Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

Combine and Serve

  1. 7

    Add Meatballs to Sauce

Once the meatballs are cooked, add them to the marinara sauce and let them simmer together for an additional 10 minutes.

  2. 8

    Prepare for Serving

Prepare the baked rolls by slicing them open. Serve the meatballs and sauce on the rolls with provolone cheese and Romano cheese on the side.
