Method

Brownie Layer

  1. 1

    Prepare the Brownie Batter

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, melt 1 cup of unsalted butter in the microwave or on the stove until completely melted. Allow the butter to cool slightly.

  2. 2

Once cooled, add 1.5 cups of granulated sugar, 0.5 cup of brown sugar, and mix well until combined.

  3. 3

Add the 3 large eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 1 tsp of vanilla extract.

  4. 4

In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 0.5 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 0.5 tsp of salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.

  5. 5

Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips into the brownie batter.

  1. 6

In a separate mixing bowl, cream together 0.5 cup of unsalted butter (at room temperature), 0.5 cup of granulated sugar, and 0.5 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  2. 7

Add 1 large egg and 1 tsp of vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

  3. 8

In another bowl, combine 1.5 cups of all-purpose flour, 0.5 tsp of baking soda, and 0.25 tsp of salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  4. 9

Fold in 1 cup of chocolate chips into the cookie dough.

Assemble and Bake

  1. 10

    Layer and Bake

Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and pour the brownie batter into the bottom, spreading it evenly.

  2. 11

Carefully spoon the cookie dough over the brownie layer, spreading it out evenly to cover the brownies.

  3. 12

Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

  4. 13

Allow to cool in the pan for at least 15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
