Preparation
- 1
Season the Steak
Pat the Angus ribeye steak dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. This helps to achieve a better sear. Sprinkle both sides of the steak evenly with kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to allow the seasonings to penetrate the meat.
Cooking
- 2
Heat the Pan
In a large cast-iron skillet or heavy frying pan, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat until it starts to shimmer, about 2-3 minutes.

Flip and Cook
Using tongs, flip the steak over and cook for an additional 4-5 minutes for medium-rare, or longer if you prefer it more well done. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature: 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium, and 160°F for well done.
- 5
Rest the Steak
Remove the steak from the skillet and place it on a cutting board. Cover loosely with aluminum foil and let it rest for 5-10 minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat.
