Calamari Preparation
Marinara Sauce
Method
Calamari Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the cleaned calamari under cold water and pat dry with paper towels. This helps to ensure a crispy texture when frying.
- 2
Make the Breading
In a large bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. In another bowl, beat the eggs.
- 3
Coat the Calamari
Dip each calamari ring into the beaten eggs, allowing the excess to drip off, then coat it in the flour mixture. Shake off any excess flour.
- 4
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Working in batches, carefully add the coated calamari rings to the hot oil. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Marinara Sauce
- 6
- 7
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, and dried basil. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 8
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
- 9
Serve
Serve the fried calamari hot with marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
