Mix the Ingredients
In a mixing glass, combine the blood orange juice, bourbon or rye whiskey, simple syrup, and Angostura bitters. Fill the mixing glass with ice cubes.

Stir the Cocktail
Stir the mixture for about 30 seconds until well chilled.

Strain and Serve
Strain the cocktail into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of blood orange and a maraschino cherry.
