Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
Prepare the Cheese Sticks
Freeze the mozzarella cheese sticks for at least 30 minutes to make them easier to handle during breading.
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place the flour in the first bowl, whisk the eggs in the second bowl, and combine the bread crumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and black pepper in the third bowl.
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Take each frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess to drip off, and finally coat it with the breadcrumb mixture. Make sure to press the breadcrumbs onto the cheese to adhere well. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
Fry the Cheese Sticks
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry the breaded mozzarella sticks in batches for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce
Prepare Marinara Sauce
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Serve
Remove from heat and serve the marinara sauce warm alongside the fried mozzarella sticks.
