Method

Cooking the Base

1

Sauté the Aromatics

In a large skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of oil. Once hot, add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.

2

Brown the Beef

Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until the beef is browned and cooked through, approximately 6-8 minutes.

3

Add Vegetables and Spices

Stir in the chopped bell pepper, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 3-4 minutes until the bell pepper softens.

4

Incorporate Rice and Liquids

Add the rice to the skillet, stirring thoroughly to combine with the beef and vegetables. Pour in the chicken broth and diced tomatoes (including juices). Bring to a boil.

5

Simmer the Mixture

Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 20 minutes or until the rice is tender and has absorbed most of the liquid.

6

Add Beans and Corn

Stir in the black beans and corn, allowing them to heat through for about 5 minutes.

Serving

7

8
