For the Mozzarella Sticks

Prepare the Cheese
Cut the mozzarella sticks in half if desired for shorter sticks. Place them in the freezer for at least 30 minutes until firm.

Set Up the Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, place flour in the first bowl, beaten eggs in the second, and a mixture of bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper in the third bowl.

Fry the Sticks
In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the mozzarella sticks in batches and fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

Cook the Sauce
In a saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Combine Ingredients
Add the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, salt, pepper, and sugar to the saucepan. Stir to combine.

Simmer the Sauce
Let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the fresh basil leaves toward the end of cooking.
