Method
Meatballs
- 1
Prepare the Meatball Mixture
In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground pork, bread crumbs, egg, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, black pepper, and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- 2
Shape the Meatballs
Using your hands, shape the mixture into meatballs approximately 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place the formed meatballs on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- 3
Bake the Meatballs
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake the meatballs for 25-30 minutes until browned and cooked through.
Tomato Sauce
- 4
Sauté the Aromatics
In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute.
- 5
Add the Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Bring the sauce to a simmer and let it cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 6
Combine Meatballs with Sauce
Once the meatballs are baked, add them to the simmering sauce. Allow them to cook together for an additional 10 minutes for the flavors to meld.
Serving
- 7
Serve the Meatballs
Spoon the meatballs and sauce onto a serving plate. Top with coarse grated cheese before serving warm.
