Method

Prepare Sushi Rice

  1. 1

    Rinse the Rice

Rinse the sushi rice under cold water in a fine-mesh strainer until the water runs clear, about 2-3 minutes.

  2. 2

    Cook the Rice

In a rice cooker, combine the rinsed sushi rice and 2.5 cups of water. Cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.

  3. 3

    Season the Rice

In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved. Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a large bowl and gently fold in the vinegar mixture. Allow it to cool to room temperature.

Prepare Fillings

  1. 4

    Slice Fish

Thinly slice the fresh salmon and tuna fillets against the grain into strips.

  2. 5

    Prepare Avocado

Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop out the flesh. Slice into thin strips.

  3. 6

    Prepare Cucumber

Peel the cucumber if desired, then cut it into thin strips.

Assemble Sushi Rolls

  1. 7

    Lay Out Nori

Place a sheet of nori shiny side down on a bamboo sushi mat.

  2. 8

    Spread Sushi Rice

Wet your hands and grab a handful of sushi rice. Evenly spread it over the nori sheet, leaving about 1 inch of space at the top.

  3. 9

    Add Fillings

Place a few strips of salmon, tuna, avocado, and cucumber in a line across the middle of the rice.

  4. 10

    Roll the Sushi

Using the bamboo mat, carefully roll the sushi away from you, pressing gently to form a tight roll. Seal the edge of the nori with a little water.

  5. 11

    Slice the Roll

Using a sharp, wet knife, slice the roll into 6-8 pieces. Repeat the process with remaining ingredients.

Serve

  1. 12

    Presentation

Arrange the sushi rolls on a platter and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
