Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Calamari

Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.

  2. 2

    Set Up Breading Station

In three separate bowls, set up your breading station. In the first bowl, place the flour mixed with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. In the second bowl, beat the eggs and buttermilk together. In the third bowl, add the blue cornmeal.

  3. 3

    Bread the Calamari

Dredge each calamari ring in the flour mixture, then dip it into the egg mixture, and finally coat it with blue cornmeal. Ensure each piece is well coated.

  4. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large skillet or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).

  5. 5

    Fry the Calamari

Working in batches, carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil and fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  6. 6

    Serve

Garnish the fried calamari with chopped fresh parsley and serve with lemon wedges on the side for squeezing over the calamari.
