Cocktail Ingredients
House-Made Citrus Peel Syrup
Method
Cocktail Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Glass
Begin by chilling your Old Fashioned glass. You can do this by filling it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
- 3
Stir
Stir the mixture gently for about 30 seconds until well chilled.
- 4
Strain
Remove the ice water from your chilled Old Fashioned glass and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass over fresh ice.
- 5
Garnish
Express the oils from the orange peel over the drink by holding it over the glass and giving it a gentle twist. Drop the peel into the drink as a garnish.
House-Made Citrus Peel Syrup Preparation
- 6
Combine Ingredients
In a saucepan, combine the granulated sugar and water. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- 7
Add Citrus Peels
Add the citrus peels to the saucepan and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
- 8
Simmer
Let the mixture simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly and takes on the flavor of the peels.
- 9
Cool and Store
Remove from heat and allow the syrup to cool completely. Strain out the citrus peels and store the syrup in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
