Chocolate Cake

Method

Chocolate Cake

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  4. 4

    Combine Mixtures

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.

  5. 5

    Add Boiling Water

Carefully stir in the boiling water until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  6. 6

    Bake the Cake

Divide the cake batter evenly between the prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. 7

    Cool the Cakes

Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove from the pans and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Chocolate Mousse

  1. 8

    Melt the Chocolate

In a microwave-safe bowl or using a double boiler, melt the dark chocolate until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

  2. 9

    Whip Cream

In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream with sugar and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.

  3. 10

    Separate Eggs

Separate the eggs, placing the whites in one bowl and the yolks in another.

  4. 11

    Beat Egg Yolks

Add the melted chocolate to the egg yolks and mix until fully combined.

  5. 12

    Whip Egg Whites

In a clean bowl, whip the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form.

  6. 13

    Combine Mousse Mixture

Fold the whipped cream into the chocolate and egg yolk mixture, then gently fold in the whipped egg whites until no white streaks remain.

  7. 14

    Chill the Mousse

Refrigerate the mousse for at least 2 hours to set.

Dark Chocolate Frosting

  1. 15

    Make the Frosting

In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the cocoa powder and powdered sugar, alternating with the heavy cream, beating until smooth and fluffy.

  2. 16

    Add Vanilla

Mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.

                                                                                More from Ophelia's
