Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese
Freeze the mozzarella sticks for at least 1 hour to make them firmer and easier to handle.
- 2
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Take a frozen mozzarella stick and coat it in flour, shaking off excess. Next, dip it into the egg mixture, letting any excess drip off, and finally coat it in the bread crumb mixture. Press the crumbs onto the stick to ensure an even coating. Repeat for all mozzarella sticks.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.
- 5
Fry the Mozzarella Sticks
Carefully lower a few breaded mozzarella sticks into the hot oil, frying them in batches. Fry for about 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- 6
Serve
Serve the hot mozzarella sticks immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.
For the Marinara Sauce
- 7
- 8
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in the canned crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer.
- 9
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat and let the sauce simmer for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened and flavors meld.
- 10
Serve
Serve the marinara sauce warm alongside the mozzarella sticks for dipping.
