Method

Preparation of Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel Potatoes

Thoroughly wash the Russet potatoes under cold water to remove any dirt. Peel the skin off using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Slice the peeled potatoes into uniform sticks, about 1/4 inch thick, to ensure even cooking.

Soaking

  1. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut fries in a large bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes to remove excess starch. This will help them become crispy.

Frying

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a large, heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

  2. 5

    Dry the Fries

After soaking, drain the fries and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add a batch of fries to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Remove and Drain

Use a slotted spoon to remove the fries from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Seasoning and Serving

  1. 8

    Season the Fries

While the fries are still hot, sprinkle them with salt and black pepper according to your taste.

  2. 9

    Serve

Serve the crispy golden fries hot with ketchup on the side for dipping.
