Method

  1. 1

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.

  2. 2

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.

  3. 3

Divide the dough into equal portions and roll them into balls. Flatten slightly and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  4. 4

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool completely on a wire rack.

Royal Icing Preparation

  1. 5

    Mix the Royal Icing

In a large bowl, combine the powdered sugar and egg white powder. Gradually add water while mixing on low speed until the icing reaches a thick but spreadable consistency.

  2. 6

    Color the Icing

If desired, divide the icing into separate bowls and add food coloring to each to create different colors.

Decorating the Cookies

  1. 7

    Ice the Cookies

Using a piping bag or a small spatula, spread or pipe the royal icing onto the cooled cookies. Allow the icing to set for about 15 minutes.

  2. 8

    Add Decorations

While the icing is still wet, sprinkle with sprinkles, chocolate chips, chopped nuts, or edible glitter as desired.

  3. 9

    Let Dry

Let the decorated cookies sit at room temperature for at least 1 hour to allow the icing to harden completely.
