Cake Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and prepare four ramekins by greasing them with butter and dusting with cocoa powder.

  2. 2

    Melt Chocolate and Butter

In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the semi-sweet chocolate and unsalted butter. Stir continuously until melted and smooth. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3

    Combine Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In another bowl, whisk the eggs and vanilla extract until well combined. Slowly pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, whisking continuously to combine.

  5. 5

    Combine All Ingredients

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  6. 6

    Fill Ramekins

Divide the batter evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about 2/3 full.

  7. 7

    Bake

Place the ramekins on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 12-14 minutes or until the edges are firm but the center remains soft.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Let the cakes cool for 1 minute. Run a knife around the edges to loosen, then carefully invert onto dessert plates. Dust with powdered sugar and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
