Shortbread Base
Maple Pecan Topping
Method
Shortbread Base
- 1
Prepare the Shortbread Base
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large mixing bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
- 2
Mix in Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the all-purpose flour and salt to the creamed mixture. Mix until just combined. Do not overmix, as it can lead to a tough texture.
- 3
Press into Pan
Press the shortbread mixture evenly into the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Prick the surface with a fork to prevent bubbling.
- 4
Bake the Base
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
Maple Pecan Topping
- 5
Prepare the Topping
In a medium bowl, combine the chopped pecans, maple syrup, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until well combined.
- 6
Assemble the Bars
Pour the maple pecan topping over the slightly cooled shortbread base, spreading it evenly.
- 7
Bake the Bars
Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is set and lightly browned.
- 8
Cool and Cut
Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, cut into bars and serve.
