Method
Meatball Preparation
- 1
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, ground pork, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, eggs, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- 2
Form Meatballs
Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. Place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- 3
Chill Meatballs
Cover the baking sheet with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to help the meatballs hold their shape during cooking.
Cooking Meatballs
- 4
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- 5
Heat Olive Oil
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
- 6
Brown Meatballs
Cook the meatballs for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until they are browned on all sides.
- 7
Transfer to Oven
Transfer browned meatballs to a baking dish and place them in the preheated oven. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cooked through.
Sauce Preparation
- 8
Sauté Onion
In the same skillet used for the meatballs, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and chopped onion. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- 9
Add Tomatoes and Spices
Stir in crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, and black pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- 10
Simmer Sauce
Allow the sauce to simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened slightly.
Combine and Serve
- 11
Mix Meatballs with Sauce
Once meatballs are cooked, add them to the simmering sauce. Stir gently to coat the meatballs with the sauce.
- 12
Serve
Serve the meatballs hot over pasta or with crusty bread.
