Focaccia Bread

Method

Focaccia Bread Preparation

  1. 1

    Activate the Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Mix well to combine.

  3. 3

    Combine Ingredients

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture. Add the activated yeast mixture and 1/2 cup of olive oil into the well. Mix until a dough begins to form.

  4. 4

    Knead the Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. 5

    First Rise

Grease a large bowl with olive oil, place the dough inside, and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  6. 6

    Shape the Dough

After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Transfer to a greased baking sheet and stretch it out to fit the sheet. Dimple the surface with your fingers.

  7. 7

    Add Toppings

Drizzle the remaining olive oil over the dough, sprinkle with fresh rosemary and sea salt flakes.

  8. 8

    Second Rise

Cover the dough again with a damp cloth and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  9. 9

    Bake the Focaccia

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Bake the focaccia for about 20-25 minutes until golden brown. Remove and let it cool slightly before slicing.

Balsamic Dip Preparation

  1. 10

    Combine Ingredients

In a mixing bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, extra virgin olive oil, and black pepper until well combined.

  2. 11

    Add Fresh Basil

Chop fresh basil leaves and stir them into the balsamic mixture. Adjust seasoning to taste.

  3. 12

    Serve

Transfer the balsamic dip to a serving bowl and serve alongside the sliced focaccia.
