Method
Cooking the Pasta
- 1
Boil the Pasta
In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the rigatoni pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Making the Bolognese Sauce
- 2
Sauté the Vegetables
In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes, or until vegetables are softened.
- 3
Add Garlic and Meat
Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Add ground beef to the mixture and cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spoon.
- 4
Add Tomatoes and Seasonings
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, black pepper, and red wine (if using). Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 5
Finish the Sauce
Add milk to the sauce and stir well. Let it simmer for an additional 10 minutes to combine the flavors.
Assembling and Baking
- 6
Combine Pasta and Sauce
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rigatoni with the Bolognese sauce, mixing until the pasta is well coated.
- 7
Prepare for Baking
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Transfer the pasta and sauce mixture into a large baking dish.
- 8
Add Cheese
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the top of the pasta.
- 9
Bake
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
- 10
Serve
Remove from the oven and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving. Enjoy your baked rigatoni Bolognese!
