Dough and Toppings

Method

Preparation and Baking

  1. 1

    Make the Dough

In a large bowl, mix warm milk (about 110°F), sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy. Stir in melted butter, flour, and salt to form a soft dough. Knead for about 8 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  2. 2

    Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar

In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

  3. 3

    Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide into small pieces (about 1 inch). Roll each piece into a ball, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture.

  4. 4

    Layer the Balls

Grease a bundt pan. Place a layer of cinnamon-sugar-coated dough balls in the pan. Add a layer of Luxardo cherries. Repeat layers until all dough balls and cherries are used.

  5. 5

    Final Rise

Cover the bundt pan with a towel and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  6. 6

    Bake

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the monkey bread for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Let it cool for 10 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.

  7. 7

Make the Grand Marnier Cream Cheese Icing

In a bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and Grand Marnier until creamy. Drizzle over warm monkey bread before serving.
