Tortilla Ingredients

Method

Tortilla Preparation

  1. 1

    Mix the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the masa harina and salt. Gradually add water while mixing with your hands until a soft dough forms.

  2. 2

    Knead the Dough

Knead the dough for about 2-3 minutes until it is smooth and pliable. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water, one tablespoon at a time.

  3. 3

    Divide the Dough

Divide the dough into equal portions, about the size of a golf ball. Cover with a damp cloth to keep the dough from drying out.

  4. 4

    Press the Tortillas

Using a tortilla press or a rolling pin, flatten each ball of dough between two pieces of parchment paper until they are about 1/8 inch thick.

  5. 5

    Cook the Tortillas

Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each tortilla for about 30-45 seconds on each side, or until they begin to brown and puff up.

  6. 6

    Keep Warm

Place the cooked tortillas in a clean kitchen towel to keep warm while you finish cooking the rest.
