Method
Dough Preparation
- 1
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Mix Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour along with olive oil.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Mix until a dough forms, then transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- 4
Let Dough Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Pizza Assembly
- 5
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) and place a pizza stone or baking tray inside to heat.
- 6
Shape the Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness.
- 7
Add Sauce and Toppings
Transfer the dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet or a pizza peel. Spread tomato sauce evenly over the dough, then tear the mozzarella into pieces and distribute it on top. Add fresh basil leaves.
- 8
Season and Drizzle
Sprinkle with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Drizzle with olive oil.
- 9
Bake the Pizza
Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven (or pizza stone) and bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly.
- 10
Serve
Remove the pizza from the oven, let it cool for a couple of minutes, then slice and serve hot. Enjoy your Margherita Pizza!
