Scone Ingredients

Method

Scone Preparation

  1. 1

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. 2

    Mix Dry Ingredients

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. 3

    Cut in Butter

Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to blend until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. 4

    Combine Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, vanilla extract, and egg until well combined.

  5. 5

    Combine Mixtures

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined. If using, fold in the dried fruit or chocolate chips.

  6. 6

    Shape the Scones

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut into wedges or use a biscuit cutter for round scones.

  7. 7

    Bake

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

  8. 8

    Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for a few minutes before serving warm.
