Preparation
- 1
Make the Dough
In a small saucepan, heat the milk until warm but not boiling. Remove from heat and stir in the sugar and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- 2
Combine Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a dough forms.
- 3
Knead the Dough
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.

Assemble the Babka
Once the dough has risen, roll it out into a rectangle. Spread the chocolate filling evenly over the dough, then roll it up tightly from the long side. Cut the roll in half lengthwise and twist the two halves together.
- 6
Final Rise
Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan. Cover and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Bake
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the babka for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Let cool before slicing.
