Baguette Ingredients

Method

Baguette Directions

  1. 1

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, salt, and active dry yeast. Mix well.

  2. 2

    Add Water

Gradually add the water to the dry ingredients, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. 3

    Knead the Dough

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 4

    First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.

  5. 5

    Shape the Baguettes

Punch down the dough gently, then divide it into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a long baguette.

  6. 6

    Second Rise

Place the shaped baguettes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.

  7. 7

    Preheat the Oven

Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C) and place a baking stone or an inverted baking sheet inside to heat.

  8. 8

    Score and Bake

Using a sharp knife or a lame, score the tops of the baguettes. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

  9. 9

    Cool and Serve

Remove the baguettes from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack. Serve with R. Meunier Butter and a sprinkle of Maldon salt.
